 Our
Mission Statement
"Creating
Miracles in life through character development in baseball /
softball."
Our Motto
"Developing you better to
become your best...
On & off the field, in & out of the classroom, & in & out of the
home!"
Miracles Baseball Academy is the
invention of Mike Harris, a former professional baseball player,
coach & scout for the St. Louis Cardinals & Chicago White
Sox, and former coach at a Christian University. He graduated with a
Bachelor's Degree in Pastoral Counseling & Sports Psychology with
a minor in Biblical Studies. For over 25 years, he has been a
pioneer in the baseball community by performing various camps,
coaches clinics, and private & group instruction in the Houston
area & nationally. He also acts as a liaison & consultant
for various schools & universities, armature & professional ball
clubs, religious organizations, and others.
The creation of Miracles Baseball was
centered on the "Total Player" concept, an innovative idea involving
more than teaching and improving baseball skills. This concept
instead uses baseball and softball as a platform to construct young men
and women who are
well rounded in life's skills, the skills that our youth are
desperately lacking. This is done by providing
camps & clinics,
various life skills sessions,
private & group lessons,
travel teams,
and an annual college
conference/showcase. See our "Contact
Us" link for staff credentials.
Mr. Harris and Miracles Baseball
began their endeavor to strengthen our future in the fall of
1999 with the inaugural team consisting of sixteen year olds and
under. Following their first season it was evident that the team
needed a training facility to meet their baseball needs. As a
result, the Miracles Baseball Academy of northwest Houston
opened its doors in February of 2000. The new indoor training
facility paid immediate dividends as the team worked hard in the
off-season and finished their first summer season sixth in the
country at the Amateur Athletic Union National Invitational
Tournament.
Buoyed by their success on and off
the field, expansion followed. In the fall of 2000 the program
added one team to accommodate the increased interest in the
community. The program was beginning to take shape; the summer
of 2001 saw the addition of two more teams bringing the total to
four teams, two sixteen and under and two eighteen and under.
The increase in teams did not dilute the talent pool, however,
as both sixteen and under teams advanced to the AAU National
Invitational Tournament and placed sixth and third respectively.
The eighteen and under combined to send one representative to
the AAU National Tournament, winning the Classic Tournament. The
fall of 2001 continued the development of our two sixteen and
two eighteen year old teams and the addition of a ten and under
team.
The summer of 2002 was shaping up
to be our best ever and it did not disappoint. Our newly added
ten and under finished second at the Triple Crown World Series
in their inaugural season as Miracles. Our sixteen and under
advanced to the AAU Junior Olympics for the first time ever and
our eighteen and under advanced to the Champion Tournament of
the AAU National Tournament.
We are excited about consistent success from 2003 to the present.
We now are able to boast 10 Select Baseball Teams ranging from
10-18U. All of these accomplishments on
the field mirrored these young men's growth off of it. The
implementation of the "Total Player" concept was beginning to
pay dividends as these young men began to acquire a degree of
social responsibility by participating in various community
service projects such as the Houston Astros inner city clinics
and area youth league instructional clinics. Along the way, we
have placed in numerous local, area, state, and national
tournaments, but these victories are not our most prominent
accomplishments. The 200+ young men who have gone on to college
and 9 drafted by the Pros and 2 are Houston Astros (J.R. Towles
and Jared Ball) are our most
significant achievements.
Our goal is to also extend this concept into Girls' Softball. We already
offer girls' camps, clinics and private lessons and we have had 18+ girls go on to play college softball. We are
seeking a credible woman instructor with college experience who
could team up with our present credible pitching instructor to
better expand our mission.
As of January 2008, Miracles is
carving out our next chapter of success. We have formed a
generous partnership with Champions Community Center and others.
These partnerships have yielded the donation of a plot of land
for the construction of a first class field. This field
will be used to continue the expansion of our pioneer
developmental program. It will also benefit the inner city
kids in our neighboring areas as we reach out to bring baseball
to them. Helping to provide a hope and opportunity for
those who normally are passed by as we help them to shake hands
with their futures. |
